Watercolor Class Homework

COLD BERRIES


This homework was assigned by email when we had a major snowstorm that canceled my watercolor class. I haven't seen the entire class' work yet so this is the only picture I have, its my own. I really liked doing this one especially because it wasn't really terribly hard.

      Thanks so much, Kathy, but I have to give a lot of credit to our instructor. She gives us many pointers and paints along with us so we learn by doing. She goes around the room to each of us pointing out where we can correct what we’ve done. The only showing I’ve been in was organized by that instructor for our class. It was fun to see everyone’s work displayed!

    Excellent. If it "wasn't that hard" it is more likely that you have developed the skills to make it seem easier.

      Thank you, Gene. That observation may be partly true as I had tried using watercolor many times over the years but got nowhere. I’m happier with results now. The frosty looking blue background is the result of the salt trick we learned. It was a lot of fun.

Spring in Southeast Massachusetts

We are still having some cooler nights but more warm sunny days, so everything is growing. The former owners of our house were flower gardeners and our yard is filled with perennial plants. I am not an eager gardener so I appreciate that they grow on their own. But we are learning they also require weeding kand the removal of dried plants from last year, especially the dead hostas. Maybe some of you know the answer to a question I have. The photo shows a current view of a small backyard area where spring has brought life to daffodils, tulips, rose bushes, and what may be a large lily of the valley. Along the white fence and walkway it's filled with purplish peony shoots. I was excited last year to see those bulbs looking healthy and growing well, but they never produced any peony flowers! I now wonder, might they produce flowers this year? Is there something I should do to help them bloom?

A Reintroduction

Years ago I kept a blog, mostly sharing creative projects from our NJ location I thought would never change. However, life did bring changes and after 46 years in NJ, we now live in beautiful New England. We downsized to a very old historic house in Massachusetts that we fell in love with the first time we saw it. We have spent most of this year settling in and making it our own. My choice for being creative is still painting, but I’m now taking a class in watercolor, something I could never get right. What I’ve learned is that it’s much more involved than I imagined. So I’m going forward with a wonderful instructor, and I look forward to each weekly class. I’ll start this first post with a few favorites and am open to any and all suggestions. I’m looking forward to blogging again, topics not limited. Just post what you have been doing since last we “met”!
